Rob,

I hope you like Voltaire. It is very classic French (not Bistro), so if you go with that mindset, I think you will enjoy it.

elmo,

Thanks for the compliments. It really was a very special evening. Of course, it wasn't a burger shop in Ann Arbor, so there you go. :o)

melati,

I think you have to take Voltaire for what it is. If you compared it to, say, Mary Elaines, I think you would be greatly disappointed.

As for pomme frites and Duck Confit, Vincent's or Zinc Bistro come to mind.

I have been to Voltaire, but it was years ago. And it was before I had traveled extensively in France. Now I'm not so sure how well it would do against my harder and harder to please expectations.

What does it take for a girl to get a Duck Confit, pomme frite around here!!?!

That was such an evocative post. One of your very best! I felt as if I was there tasting every single course, savoring as you savored that wonderful night. What a great place! What a perfect review!

Wow, that really was a bargain. Certainly not the usual prices in Scottsdale. For French, I usually go to Vincent's, Citrus Cafe, or Coup des Tartes. Voltaire is definitely going on my todo list. Thanks for the tip!

Amanda,

It is closer to Miller Road. Right now, the building is dealing with the construction along McDonald so we almost missed the turn into the place as we tried to dodge the pylons. It is on the south side of McDonald, but once you find it, you will never miss it again.

You and I have the same problem with friends. Roommate Dave and Neil are good people to take out for experiments, as are Madge and Boris. Other friends always want to go to the same places. There just came a point where I couldn't stand another trip to Macayo's, so I know what you are going through.

Indy,

Thanks for dropping by! The onion soup was amazing. The veal stock made all the difference in the world.

i have a client on mcdonald just east of scottsdale, so i travel it between tatum and scottsdale often, which is why i'm wowed that i haven't noticed it.

no, in phoenix, i have to do a fair amt of convincing to get people to dimsum. french seems out of the question. however, i don't have a single friend that ever seems to tire of enchiladas. hrmm.

Amanda,

Voltaire is a hidden gem. McDonald Drive is a sleep thruway connecting Scottsdale to Paradise Valley. The building Voltaire is in looks like all the other buildings in the area, so most people would miss it if they didn't know where to look.

No French eating companion? *gasp* J. often begs that we do something different than French food. I guess I am too much of a fan.
